Singers to listen for proves a great success

On Friday November 6, the Rotary Club of Wellington was host to an unusual concert.

President Kerry Prendergast explained that the Club has as one of its goals the encouragement of young people in their careers and personal lives. This event is very consistent with that objective. Members of the Wellington music scene are influential in the growth of talent in this country.
Kerry introduced the MC for the evening, Rodney Macann to the audience of 150 in St Andrews on The Terrace. Rodney said that, when it comes to opera singing and emerging talent, New Zealand’s talent pool is the equal of any of the great cultural centres. It continually amazes international adjudicators when they participate in our major competitions such as the Lexus and New Zealand Aria.
In this concert young singers starting on their careers were being given a platform of their own to showcase their talent. Usually they accompany a more experienced singer, or they are in an Opera chorus.
