Sergeant Brian McKeon on Libraries
Brian McKeon had a second bite of the Sergeant cherry in only a matter of weeks with his follow up session on libraries. Brian talked further about the history of the Wellington Public Library. The first librarian was a guy called Frederick Knox, brother of the more famous John Knox. His major qualification as a librarian seemed to be an extensive background in cadavers. The establishment of a city library had difficulties, including the high cost of borrowing books . The Council, with help from a major benefactor, built a new library in 1893.
