2017 Annual President’s cocktail function

On Wednesday 24 May 2017 ninety Rotarians and guests gathered at the Wellesley Boutique Hotel to celebrate Mark Wheeler’s year as President of the Rotary Club of Wellington.

While guests enjoyed conversation over canapes and drinks, background music provided by Nicholas Kovacev of the New Zealand School of Music set the tone for the evening.  Past President Hewitt Humphrey fulfilled the role of Master of Ceremonies with his usual flair and style.   Those attending were entertained by emerging singer, Natasha Wilson, accompanied by Catherine Norton on the piano.   We will hear more of Natasha later in the year when she performs for us in “Singers to listen for”.

Guest of honour, Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Right Honourable Bill English, addressed the gathering and assisted President Mark in the presentation of Paul Harris Fellowships to

• Rodney Macann, Nicky Riddiford and Rebecca Maresca for their services to the Rotary Club of Wellington and the wider community

• Club Members: Helen Algar, John Emanuel and Joan Smith; and

• Sapphire pins: James Austin and Susan Satyanand

At the conclusion of the awards, President Mark announced with some brief words of introduction that the nominee for President-elect (for the 2018-19 Rotary year) is Marion Cowden.

Photographs of Rotarians and their guests throughout the evening were captured by James Griffin of Edgeline Photography.

As always, it was a superb function that ran so smoothly there was no hint of the immense effort of those behind the scenes to ensure we enjoyed ourselves.   Thanks are due to all involved in the planning and organising.
