On Saturday 16 June, 39 volunteers (plus Ben the dog) turned up on a mild winter’s morning to push towards our goal of planting 100,000 trees by 2021. Forest at the Heart of the City gained a further 400 plants in the ground thanks to these hard workers. It was a particularly difficult site with quite a trek from the street to the steeply sloped planting area.
Conservation Volunteers Wellington and the Rotary Club of Wellington members were joined by enthusiastic volunteers from some of our students from the Skilled Migrants Programme, other local Rotary Clubs, a Lions club and a large contingent from Iglesia Ni Cristo Church in Waikanae, along with a tourist from England who stopped to lend a hand!
Volunteers were rewarded with a hearty morning tea courtesy of Richard Norman, Lynn McKenzie and Rebecca Maresca.
The next planting dates are 14 July and 11 August. Come along and help progress us closer to our target. More information here
