RCW Akina Social Enterprise Awards 2016

POSTED: 16 November 2016

The second Rotary Club of Wellington Akina Social Enterprise Awards were held on Wednesday 26 October 2016 at the Wellington Club.

It was a very stimulating and vibrant Social Enterprise Awards evening, with four organisations pitching their social enterprise ideas for a share of the prize money.
The winner was LearnCoach whose online tutorials and workbooks reach 60,000 students. They plan to use the prize money to extend the tutorials to Year 13 students.
Second was Sub Urban Co-Working who will put the money towards rental and establishing more user groups.
Dave Clearwater from Akina reported progress from last year’s winner, Vogelmorn Community Club. In their push towards building a commercial kitchen so the enterprise could earn money, they discovered leaks and other unexpected damage. The prize money enabled them to work through this and they expect the kitchen to be ready by Christmas.
Our thanks to the Vocational Services Committee for this spectacular club meeting, in particular thank you to Derek Gill and Leanna Dey who organised it.
